2010 has been a very tough year for Edmonton Oilers and Eskimos fans as they been faced with watching two losing franchises. Edmonton takes a lot of pride into their two beloved sports teams and to see them play so poorly it leaves the city angry and disappointed. There is a reason why the city is called CITY OF CHAMPIONS with 18 championships between them. Therefore every year people expect to see both teams compete and battle for a playoff spot.

The Eskies this year are having a very disappointing campaign as they have the pressure of hosting the Grey Cup. But with a lack of defense and surprisingly no offence it has left them wit an under achieving football team. It begs the question is Ricky Ray still an all-star QB in the CFL. Quarterbacks in the CFL don't last long and we could potentially be seeing this with Ray. It doesn't help that Kelly Campbell has been terrible through out the whole year. Being the most consistent player, at dropping the ball. Machocia can also be blamed for this mess as he was suppose to have a team ready to contend for the Grey Cup, this ultimately did not happen and that's why he got the axe. It will be interesting to see what the new GM Eric Tillman has in store. For as much pride as the Eskies organization has, they have lacked a lot of it this season.

The Oilers were more like the Springfield Falcons last year as injuries ultimately hurt there chances of the post season. Hemsky and Khabibulin were two very important players that were hurt early and it showed how badly they needed them. They had some flashes of brillance from some of the young studs like Gagner, Brule and heck even Nilsson but you could tell this was a team deserving of finishing last in the NHL. Quinn gave it a shot of bringing in his old school ways for the new NHL and it failed miserably.

It wont be for awhile until you see either team win a championship. The Eskies will now have to rely on Tillman to get them straighten out for the 2011 season as there really isnt any time now to do any major changes with the season almost over. Expect big and quick changes for the Eskies as Tillman will want to become a contender quickly. The Oilers on the other hand will be on a five year plan with new building blocks of Taylor Hall, Magnus Paajarvi and Canadian Junior hero Jordan Eberle. If Tambellini does it right, they will be a strong contending team in three years and eventually a cup contender in five.

There is still hope Edmonton fans, it may look weak now but eventually we will return to our name of being the CITY OF CHAMPIONS.

  1. I agree man it has sucked being a fan of both the Oilers and the Eskimos in the last few years. I also don't believe that Ricky Ray is still an allsstar quarterback in the CFL, however I do believe that if given the chance Jared Zabransky has the potential to be a great starting QB and with some time an all star QB
